Recreation Maintenance Craftsman/Mechanic

Reporting to the Superintendent of Recreation Maintenance, the Maintenance Craftsman/Mechanic will be responsible to perform manual work in the maintenance and care of recreation areas, athletic fields, parks and playgrounds, and to perform skilled maintenance and repair work on department equipment.
 
Examples of work include:
  • Performs the majority of the repair and maintenance of the Recreation Maintenance equipment; diagnoses technical difficulties and makes necessary repairs and adjustments.
  • Performs preventative maintenance work.
  • Performs emergency repairs in the field as necessary and responds to other related emergencies.
  • Works with Superintendent of Recreation Maintenance and Foremen on establishing a priority list of repairs.
  • Maintains appropriate and accurate records of repair and maintenance logs.
  • Coordinates the purchase of necessary parts for the repair of equipment with the Superintendent of Recreation Maintenance.
  • Performs all types of recreation maintenance tasks.
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs equipment.
  • Performs related duties as required.
 
Minimum requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of landscape construction and maintenance experience. 
  • Valid Class B Commercial Drivers License, MA Hoisting Engineers License, and Certified Pool Operator License.
  • Knowledge of principles, procedures, methods and techniques involved in the repair and maintenance of departmental equipment. 
  • Mechanical abilities to repair and maintain a variety of equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain good public relations.
 
This position is included within the Burlington Municipal Employees Association bargaining unit. Salary range at Grade 7, of the BMEA contract is $22.12-$33.96 per hour. This is a full-time position, 40-hours per week.
