Department Assistant

Location: Town of Burlington
Reporting to the Town Clerk, this part time position performs clerical support work within the Town Clerk’s Office.
 
Examples of work include:
  • Assist the public with any number of transactions that they come into the office to handle.
  • Record and maintain databases relating to vital records, licenses, variances, census, elections, permits, fines, and minutes; prepare and distribute various database reports.
  • Assist in maintenance of a variety of documents and publications that the Clerk’s office creates
  • Administer oaths of office to elected/appointed officials and provide them with copies of relevant laws.
  • Assist with posting public meetings of town boards and committees, monthly calendars and other website updates.
  • Assist the Clerk and other office staff in a variety of office tasks.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma with experience in clerical/office work. 
  • Superior and current computer skills, including record/database management using Microsoft Access.
  • Working knowledge of state statutes and regulations, or ability to gain this knowledge.
  • Exceptional communication, organizational and customer service skills. 
  • Must be a Notary Public and a Commissioner to Qualify Public Officers, or be willing to be appointed and perform as such. 
  • Must be able to function effectively and efficiently in a multi-disciplined and dynamic work environment.
 
This position is part-time generally between the hours of 11am-3pm daily, with occasional coverage needed beyond those hours for vacations and elections. Schedule is highly flexible to accommodate the needs of both the office and the selected candidate, and is expected to average approximately 15 hours per week over the course of a year. This is a non-union, non-civil service position.  Starting hourly rate is $22.54/hr and does not include benefits.
