Administrative Assistant I

Burlington, MA
The Select Board Office is the hub of Town operations.  This position will perform clerical and administrative support work for the Office of the Town Administrator and the Select Board.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Receive and respond to telephone and in-person inquiries on varied issues. 
  • Prepare and submit payroll, personnel adjustments, and maintain attendance records for Town Administrator’s Office.
  • Maintain all general licenses.
  • Oversee affordable housing.
  • Maintain accurate departmental records and filing systems; inputs data. 
  • Prepare and maintain forms, reports, correspondence and related information for office.
  • Perform clerical duties including processing departmental mail, and photocopying documents.
  • Process invoices and payments for the Town Administrator, IT and Human Resources departments.
 
Minimum qualifications include
  • High school diploma with 2-3 years’ related experience.  Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Clerical and financial skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Familiarity with pertinent state and local laws relating to departmental operations.
  • Must be able to function effectively and efficiently in a multi-disciplined and dynamic work environment.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in standard office computer applications including spreadsheet and database programs.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the general public, other departments and business representatives.


This is a union position within the Burlington Municipal Employees Association bargaining unit.  Salary is within Grade 6, of the BMEA contract.  

Pay range starts at $27.84/hr with the opportunity to advance to a max rate of $38.93/hr via annual step increases.  This is a full time position, 35 hours per week, and includes comprehensive and generous benefits.
