Administrative Assistant I, part time

The Board of Health oversees all public health initiatives, providing guidance and excellent customer service.  Burlington is currently home to 9,100 residences and a robust and diverse collection of commercial enterprises within the retail, life science, technology, and medical sectors.  Burlington has achieved a Platinum BioReady rating from MassBio, underscoring its support of assisting biotech companies relocate to our community.  This 30-hour position will perform clerical and administrative support work for the Board of Health under the Director of Public Health.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Receive and respond to telephone and in-person inquiries on varied issues. 
  • Process applications for permits and other registrations as required by local and state regulations.
  • Create and maintain accurate departmental records and filing systems; using Microsoft Excel, Digital Health Department, and the MA Immunization Information System (MIIS).
  • Assist with varied public health programs.
  • Prepare and maintain forms, reports, correspondence and related information for department.
  • Assist with departmental payroll, personnel adjustments, and departmental attendance records.
  • Perform clerical duties including processing departmental mail, filing, and photocopying documents.
  • Process invoices and payments.
  • Perform other related duties.
 
Minimum qualifications include
  • High school diploma with 2-3 years’ related experience.  Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Clerical and financial skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Must be able to function effectively and efficiently in a multi-disciplined and dynamic work environment.
  • Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in standard office computer applications including spreadsheet and database programs.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the general public, other departments and business representatives.

This is a union position within the Burlington Municipal Employees Association bargaining unit.  Salary is within Grade 6, of the BMEA contract.  

Pay range starts at $28.53/hr with the opportunity to advance to a max rate of $40.77/hr via annual step increases.  This is a part time position, 30 hours per week, and includes comprehensive & generous benefits.
