Communications Officer

Burlington, MA
The Town of Burlington seeks a dynamic, creative, and highly motivated Communications Officer to lead its town-wide communications and community engagement strategy. This new leadership role will develop and implement comprehensive communications programs that inform, educate, and engage Burlington’s residents, businesses, and stakeholders. As a member of the Town’s administrative team, the Communications Officer will be responsible for the development of an integrated communications framework that includes digital strategy, branding, media relations, website content and curation, and social media management. This role also serves as the Town’s Public Information Officer during emergency or crisis situations.

Essential of work include:
  • Design and implement a proactive, inclusive, and informative communications strategy that reflects the goals and priorities of the Town.
  • Promote transparency, awareness, and civic engagement through regular public updates, event promotion, and coverage of municipal programs and initiatives.
  • Oversee the structure, design, and content management of the Town’s website to ensure it is accessible, up-to-date, user-friendly, and informative, and a leading communication tool for the Town.
  • Lead the development, launch, and day-to-day management of the Town’s official social media channels and digital content platforms.
  • Oversee and monitor content development and ensure consistent messaging and voice across digital platforms.
  • Lead or support special initiatives aimed at improving civic dialogue, community outreach, and transparency.
 
Minimum qualifications include:
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, or public administration.
  • 3+ years of experience with social media, website management, communications, particularly in a municipal setting.
  • Advanced skills with website management content management systems, social media account management platforms, graphic design, analytics, and publishing tools.
  • Superior writing, editing, and verbal communications skills with a strong customer service focus.
  • Flexible and adaptable to evolving workplace demands, ability to attend events and programs in the evenings, on the weekend or holidays.

This is a full time, onsite position, 35 hours per week involving office work, meetings, and on-location coverage for events and emergencies.

The hiring range for this position is $75,619 - $104,238, with comprehensive and generous benefits.
