Engineering Aide

Burlington, MA
Reporting to the Town Engineer, the Engineering Aide performs administrative, technical and clerical work in providing civil engineering and procurement assistance to the Department of Public Works Engineering office.

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide senior level administrative support for the department.
  • Receives and responds to telephone and in-person inquiries on varied issues.
  • Assists with the development of design plans and construction specifications for major capital improvement construction projects and other DPW projects.
  • Maintains records of sewer, water, drainage, roadways and utilities; prepares reports and provides technical information to contractors, developers, and the public.
  • Assists with field surveys for a variety of purposes.
  • Maintain the Engineering Division budget.
  • Inputs and maintains the plan imaging system. 
  • Supports DPW procurements and advises other staff on the procurement process.
  • Attends and successfully complete classes and other training to maintain current knowledge.
Minimum qualifications include
  • Associate’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Five years of office and/or field construction experience in public works projects, preferably in the municipal field
  • Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for the job
  • Designation as a Massachusetts Certified Public Purchasing Official (MCPPO), or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months of employment*
*Tuition reimbursement and/or professional development funding is available to support certification after hire
 
This is a union position within the Burlington Municipal Employees Association bargaining unit.  Salary is within Grade 7, of the BMEA contract. 

Pay range starts at $31.61/hr. This is a full time position, 35 hours per week, and includes comprehensive & generous benefits.
