Superintendent, Recreation Maintenance

Reporting to the Director of Parks and Recreation, the Superintendent of Recreation Maintenance will be responsible for supervisory, planning and coordinating work in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the maintenance division of the Parks and Recreation Department and assisting the Director of Parks and Recreation in developing new recreation facilities and improving existing facilities.  
 
Examples of work include:
  • Supervises and oversees the direction of maintenance staff; works with the Lead Working Foreman to establish policies and scheduling of work orders; conducts inspections of work being performed; may perform any of the duties of subordinates
  • Assists in the preparation and tracking of budgets
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of recreation facility maintenance and improvement projects
  • Assists with the purchase, maintenance, and repair of division vehicles, equipment and supplies; manages a maintenance and repair schedule; maintains inventory
  • Helps to develop specifications and contract documents for vendor services; oversees the work of private contractors
  • Prepares regular reports
  • Performs similar or related duties
Minimum requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associates Degree preferred), with specialized training in facilities and grounds maintenance, Basic computer skills, Budgeting and organization skills
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible related experience, 5 of which should be in recreation management and/or facilities work, and at least 2 years’ supervisory experience. 
  • Valid Class B Commercial Drivers License and MA Hoisting Engineers License and, Certified Pool Operator License , License Certified Playground Safety Inspector, CPR and First Aid Certifications preferred.
  • Working knowledge of recreation management practices and principles and workplace safety
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain good public relations
This is a full time, 40 hours per week union position within the Burlington Municipal Employees Association bargaining unit.
Salary range at Grade 11, of the BMEA contract, offering annual increases via step system. is $41.88-$59.84 hour, with comprehensive and generous benefits
