Program Coordinator

The Council on Aging is seeking a Program Coordinator to design, plan, and develop programs for the town’s aging population. The Senior Center’s Program Coordinator plays a critical role in promoting vitality, connection, and the well-being of the town’s seniors. As a dynamic and energetic professional, the Program Coordinator serves as a planner, facilitator, programmer – and most importantly, a visible and consistent resource for program participants.     

Essential Position Functions:
  • Establishes and maintains an ongoing schedule of activities and programs for the population served by the Council on Aging;
  • Arranges for program instructors and guest speakers, coordinates other special events programs for seniors.  Keep class lists and instructor lists updated
  • Coordinate acquisition of resources and materials necessary to implement programs, effectively manage programs and programming space, plans for all arrangements including but not limited to hours, space, equipment, supplies, and other supporting material, including food and beverages;
  • Develops and implements community outreach strategies.
  • Develop promotional literature, flyers, posters, and information for the newsletter and website.
  • Participates in and occasionally provides staff leadership for COA special activities.
  • Serves as a liaison with school administrators and other stakeholders to foster intergenerational programming;
  • Assists in the preparation of news releases, media programming, and the COA newsletter;
  • Maintains accurate and confidential records;
  • Responsible for Age & Dementia Friendly Initiative;
  • Oversee, schedule, and train volunteers for programs; 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in a human service field with at least 3 years responsible experience working with older adults in the provision of social enrichment and/or recreation programs, or any relevant combination of experience and education.
  • Working knowledge of available social enrichment and recreation programs for senior citizens in and near Burlington.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Sensitivity, compassion and tact.
  • Patience and resiliency.
  • Dependable, punctual, and detail oriented.
  • Must be able to independently travel within town as well as to some neighboring towns.
Starting rate is 28.78 per hour ($28,437 per year) Hours are primarily weekdays, approximately 19 hours per week.

Position is available immediately and will remain open until filled.

MA General Laws mandate that any individual having direct contact at any time with either children or senior citizens be subject to CORI screening by the Criminal History Systems Board. Any conditional offer of employment is contingent upon satisfactory CORI results.
