Planner and Development Coordinator

Burlington, MA
The Town of Burlington seeks a Planner / Development Coordinator, supporting the Planning Director and Senior Planner in performing a wide variety of tasks, with the opportunity to work on a diverse array of planning initiatives.

Examples of work include:
  • Planner/Development Coordinator will lead post-approval project management of projects through construction.
  • Assists the Senior Planner with project permitting and approvals
  • Reviews site plans and subdivision plans for compliance with municipal regulations.
  • Performs site inspections to certify compliance with approved plans.
  • Assists the Senior Planner in management of GIS data and maps.
  • Responds to and investigates resident and abutter complaints.
  • Maintains and utilizes land use information using the Town’s various computer technologies.
  • Assists in Grant proposals
  • Provides technical assistance to Town staff, Boards, Committees, and the public.
  • Assists in interdepartmental Development Application Review meeting coordination.
  • Provides customer service and responds to office inquiries related to planning, zoning and projects under review.
  • Any other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a B.S. in planning, geography, public administration, construction management or related fields, and 2-3 years’ experience in municipal planning, permitting and project management. An equivalent combination of education, private sector work and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Ability and Skill: The position involves daily interaction with the public, applicants, and municipal officials, requiring strong oral and written skills. The position also requires independent travel for on-site field inspections of ongoing projects. Position may require occasional attendance at evening meetings. Computer skills for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases required.

This position is full-time (35 hours per week). This position is within Grade 11 of the Administrative & Professional compensation plan, with comprehensive benefits.
