Library Aide - Children's Department

The Burlington Public Library takes pride in the innovative services, programs and materials that it provides to its community.  Conveniently located 14 miles northwest of Boston and easily accessible from Route 95/128 and Route 3, Burlington is home to 26,000 residents and a robust collection of businesses.  This vibrant community welcomes approximately 150,000 people per day to work, eat, and shop.  Reporting to the Children's Librarian, this position supports a Children's Department that prides itself on the highest quality of service at one of the busiest public desk within the Library.  Anticipated start date is January 26, 2026.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Greet library users and perform all Children's desk activities, including but not limited to assisting patrons locate library materials, providing recommendations, and answering program inquiries. 
  • Supporting the Children’s Librarian and other Children’s staff
  • Prepare and maintain children’s space for the day, including the play area
  • Assist library users via phone and in person
  • Prepare and return materials to the shelves; shelf reading and maintenance
  • Assist in closing or opening the library
 
Recommended minimum qualifications include
  • High School diploma
  • Experience working with the public
  • Computer skills and flexibility to adapt to constantly changing technology
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Attention to detail
This is a temporary part time position, 19 hours per week; the temporary appointment is for up to 180 days.

Hours are Monday 5pm – 9pm, Wednesday 5pm – 9pm, Thursday 6pm – 9pm, and Friday 3pm – 6pm; includes a one in three-week Saturday rotation 9:45am – 5pm with Friday hours reduced.  Opportunity to work Sundays and summer Saturdays as overtime shifts.

Pay rate is at $19.20/hr
