Mechanic

The Town of Burlington is seeking an individual to perform highly skilled maintenance and repair work on heavy and light Town vehicles and equipment under the direction of the Superintendent of the Central Maintenance Division. 

Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance work; troubleshoot gasoline and diesel internal combustion engine-powered electrical systems, remove and replace clutches and transmissions
  • Per form preventative maintenance work such as lubrication and replacement of oil filters, wheel alignments, and adjusting brakes and clutches
  • Perform emergency repairs in the field and respond to other related emergencies
  • Remove and disassemble diesel and gasoline engines, replace faulty parts, grind valves, perform engine overhauls
  • Perform auto body work and related welding and fabrication duties
  • Utilize work order system and other electronic devices to complete daily assignments
  • Inspect trucks and issue inspection stickers
  • Assist in snow removal operations; subject to emergency recall
 
Minimum qualifications include
  • Must possess a CDL Class B License
  • Must possess a Hoisting License 2A, 4E & 4G
    • Applicants without the necessary CDL and Hoisting Licenses may be considered under certain conditions
  • Experience with, and knowledge of principles, procedures, methods and techniques involved in the repair & maintenance of gasoline and diesel powered motor vehicles, generators, and other equipment
  • Mechanical abilities to diagnose, repair, and maintain a variety of motorized equipment
  • Must be available for emergency snow removal operations


This is a full time union position, 40 hours per week, within the Department of Public Works bargaining unit.  Salary is within Group 86 of the DPW contract. 

Pay range starts at $29.12/hr, providing annual salary increases to a maximum rate of $40.63/hr, and includes comprehensive and generous benefits.

The selected candidate shall be required to submit to a full background check as required by MA General Law and DOT regulations.  Any conditional offer of employment is contingent upon satisfactory background check results.
